Today I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, so today’s slice is going to be one of listing little gratitudes to help me refocus my energy into something more positive:
I’m grateful for my fluffy cat,
the way her whiskers twitch
when she sniffs the outside air
from an open window.
I’m grateful for the sunshine.
It’s been such a long, long winter
And I’ve felt so cooped up and antsy these days.
I’m grateful for a morning walk in this sun;
I’m grateful for a nearby coffee shop as my destination.
I’m grateful for a companion
… even if he woke me up too early with his TikTok watching.
I’m grateful for leftovers,
For a delicious veggie kabob recipe,
For the wonders of lemon, garlic, basil, and oregano.
I’m grateful for a tiny outdoor grill.
I’m grateful for good stories
Ones to watch, read, and share,
And I’m grateful for the master storytellers
Who bring us these gifts.
I’m grateful for Slicing,
For the inspiration and kind words,
For being 15 days in and not about to let
Waking up on the wrong side of the bed
Stop me.

I hope that your poem turned your day around. You have a positive outlook on the day and sometimes that is all you need. I loved every line of your poem, but this line inspired me to cookout tonight – “I’m grateful for a tiny outdoor grill.” Thanks for sharing!

You may have woken up on the wrong side of the bed, but you sure know how to make lemonade from lemons and find the good in your day/week. There is always some good amidst the muck, if we stop to notice!

That wrong side just became the right side. Great work righting/writing the day.

Listing gratitudes is always the best tactic for a day when you’re cranky. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed yesterday and draft my #HappyParty slice yesterday just so that I could force myself to think about things I liked that made me happy. And sure enough, it turned my mood around! I really like the structure here and am definitely bookmarking this as an idea for later in the month!
